Lumiere and the rain

What could be better than shooting two totally cute, creative, and hilarious guys?!!
I had SO much fun today photographing the amazingly talented duo from Lumiere Bridal for the upcoming Urban Unveiled event.
Jonathan and Jaro were looking for something off-beat, fun, and different to showcase their business and I think we captured that. Of course, when you have two people willing to stand in the rain and get soaked...ON PURPOSE... and all in the name of a good photo...well, then, it's just hard to go wrong.

Samantha and Mackenzie

Remember Melyssa and Damian from the featured wedding section on my website? You know....that beautiful couple who had their fabulous wedding in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico? Well, they now have twin daughters who are just as cute as can be.

I first photographed the twins, Samantha and Mackenzie, when they were babies. Now they are one year old and getting even cuter by the second!!
Check out a few photos from their recent shoot...

Back from vacation

I have finally carved out some time to sit down and write about the last several weeks. It's snowing outside, I am listening to Band of Horses VERY loudly, and I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that I am no longer on vacation. Not that it's a bad thing. It's good to be home. But it truly is so lovely to have days and days where I have no schedule, where I can indulge in many hours of daydreaming or catch up with my cousins in Vermont or watch my niece swing very high on her tree swing in New York. It is so wonderful to have time with my mom where we can just laugh and drink wine, where I get to hear my cousin's amazing 17 year old son share with me his passion for languages, where I can talk about art with my brother. I savored every moment of this trip- driving through New England and seeing the multi-colored leaves on the trees, seeing the Manhattan skyline at sunset, soaking up the 70 degree weather in Myrtle Beach, hearing the birth stories from 2 generations of women in my family, playing board games, and laughing harder than I have in a long time.
It was hard to leave it all. It's hard to live so far away from such a large and loving community. But I am home now and so grateful for the amazing community I have here.
I have a lot to be thankful for.

Thank you- to ALL the family I saw on this trip- I love you all.
Here are just a few of the photos I took of you...

I am OFF!!

After working 60-70 hours a week for WAY too many months, I am taking a break. In a couple hours, I leave on a three week vacation to see my huge extended family that resides in the eastern half of the country. I cannot wait. The next three weeks have no agenda, no schedule, no structure at all, and that's just how I like it.

In my absence, my assistant will be responding to all my emails. She is available to answer questions and book appointments and portrait sessions for when I return.

In the meantime, I may not be updating my blog for a little while. Or maybe I will. See...that's part of the whole "no agenda, no schedule" thing I've got going. :)

Have a great month!!

Tiffany and Will

Tiffany found me on Lulu Weddings and, after looking at my website, recognized me as one of her friends and classmates from elementary school!! That's right- she and I went to Sunset Elementary together, had the same scary baby sitter, and have photos of ourselves at each other's birthday parties. What's even funnier is that this is the second time a client has recognized me from elementary school! It's such a small world.

Tiffany and Will got married at St. Joe's church on Capitol Hill and had their reception at The Knights of Columbus Hall. Despite the cold and wet weather outside, this wedding had a little bit of everything: a bride and groom who are obviously crazy about one another, a sweet ceremony, emotional speeches and crazy dancing at the reception, and even a pinata for the kids!

Adela

This is Adela. Her parents, Elisabeth and Russ, got married a few years back and I photographed the wedding. It was a lovely, small celebration in the spring, and it was one of my favorite weddings of that year. Since then, I have shot their maternity photos, Adela's 2-month portraits, her 6-month portraits and, now, her 1-year portraits. In addition, I have another upcoming shoot with this little family on Sunday, (and, yes, Elisabeth, I remember that it's the end of Daylight Savings, but thank you for the reminder!)
I love seeing Russ, Elisabeth, and Adela and I love watching their family grow. Truly, it is clients like these that make my job so fulfilling.
So, thank you, O'Ja family! Thanks for the laughs, the roofing advice, and the trust you place in me to document your memories.

Angie and Ryan

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of working with Angie and Ryan at their gorgeous fall wedding in Portland, Oregon.
It was a treat to photograph this beautiful couple on a perfect sunny day in such a great city. My husband and I enjoyed every minute of this fantastic celebration.

Congrats, Angie and Ryan!!
